  • How do I sign up for service?

    Steelville Telephone Exchange, Inc., requires the following for new service:

    • Must come into the business office in Steelville to fill out application.
    • Must provide us with the current 911 address (physical location) of the residence. If this address is unknown, it can be obtained by calling the local 911 office at 775-4911.
    • Must have a current valid driver's license or some form of picture ID.
    • Anyone living in the household over the age of 18 will be required to sign the application.
    • Deposit amount is $75.00. One-half of this amount is required before service order can be processed, and the other half will be billed on the first month's billing. In lieu of the deposit, a letter of credit from the previous phone company will be accepted.

  • What can I do if my internet is slow?

    Here are a few steps you can take prior to calling the helpdesk:

    1. Unplug your modem, from the wall, for 15 seconds.  Then plug it back in.  NOTE: Do not press the reset button.  It will delete necessary settings
    2. Verify it is not just one website.  Try going to other sites to verify if it is an issue on your end or not.
    3. Turn off other devices that use the Internet to make sure one of them is not using all of your available bandwidth.
